On May 10, 1775 Colonial delegates meet at the second continental congress a few weeks after the battle of Lexington and concord in Philadelphia. This meeting was held to discuss the war and their independence to Britain. Sam and John Adams knew that war couldn't be avoided even by discussing this with many other men. The past few months have been a crucial war zone but ended with victory for the patriots.
Just today when the colonial delegates meet at the second continental congress they decided to sent the olive branch petition to King George. They sent it because of all the unfair taxes that the British were sending. When the king received it he was furious and sent the British troops to attack and enforce laws. This was the cause of the war. The loyalists were angry that the colonist rebelled. They believed their way was right. When the colonists sent the olive branch petition this was a rude awaking to British. The patriots felt that they should have independence from British. British decided to give them unfair taxes without telling them. They would not stand for this. They gladly sent the olive branch petition to British to tell them how they felt.
The green mountain boys lead by Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold was a military group formed in 1770. They heard that the British were coming and decided to attack before they did out in the woods becuase the british were only trained to fight in open fields . They left out in the middle of night heading to Fort Ticonderoga to carry out their plans. They planned to conceive a surprise attack on the British at Fort Ticonderoga. This was near Lake Champlain. They used cannons to act fast and capture the fort. They soon gave up and Fort Ticonderoga was theirs. The loyalist felt defeated since they lost the battle. But the Patriots did not. They felt releaved that the battle had ended and were joyful of their victory.
Over all this year was full of many different surprises. The olive branch petition was sent to King George and was denied. After that he sent the conitental army to enforce british laws. At this time the Green Mountain Boys led by Ethan Allen held a surprise attack on Fort Ticonderoga. This battle ended in victory becuase the british have only fought in open feilds and they fought in the woods. They used this at thier advantage. Ethan Allen Was a intelligant fearless leader and along side him was Benedict Arnald.
After this all was over many people were harmed and wounded, Some poeple were happy and some were sad. Fort Ticonderoga became a storage place and a posion control center. The british were mad and sad that they lost at Fort Ticonderoga but all was fine. The many people who died in war will be lost. We have many great leaders and soliders who are making history everyday.
